Hi,
I am looking at getting my first super 8 and I was wondering if there is any way to fix when batteries have corroded in the battery compartment to get the camera working again?

I wouldn't intentionally buy a camera with battery corrosion, thinking I could fix it, because it could cause serious unfixable problems.
But if you already have the camera, or can get it free, then why not?
Just scrape off the junk, and hope it didn't do any damage to the electronics.
It may work.
If not, start hunting on ebay for a decent, cheap, S8 camera that shoots 24fps and has a good lens.

I'd either suggest taking it to a professional, looking up repair info. online (I think you can scrub off the rust with an iron scubber...but I wouldn't want you to try on my advice), or just buying another camera. If you're just starting, you might want to start cheap. I just got a camera for 2 bucks. Or, make sure your seller says it works in the first place.

Try soaking the contacts in baking soda with q tips. If they are nottotally shot that sometime works.

After cleaning roughly with knife, screwdriver or grinding paper, you could use a special erasor pen with nylon fibres, as used when fixing small damages of cars. To avoid further oxidation that could stop the camera suddenly while shooting, apply some contact oil. If you cant get a secure connection, perhaps it was possible to solder new contacts, taken off from 4,5 V flat batteries over the old ones. It is also possible to wrap a worn contact in aluminium paper in order to improve the contact.
